This Cookie Policy explains how this website uses cookies and similar technologies, why I use them, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors in the United Kingdom, the United States, Kenya, and elsewhere. Your rights depend on where you live; I say so below.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. Similar technologies, such as pixels, local storage, and scripts, work similarly, so I use the word “cookies” to cover them all. Cookies help a site work properly, remember your preferences, measure how it is used, and, in some cases, support affiliate tracking and advertising.
First-party cookies are set by this website. Third-party cookies are set by other companies whose tools or links I use, such as analytics providers or affiliate networks.
2. The types of cookies I use

4. Your choices and consent
If you are in the United Kingdom or the EEA
- When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. Cookies that need consent (marketing and affiliate cookies, and analytics or functional cookies where no exemption applies) are not set until you opt in.
- “Accept” and “Reject” are given equal prominence, and you can choose by category.
- Some analytics and functional cookies may run without prior consent where UK law exempts them. For analytics, that means they are used only to produce aggregate statistics about how the site is used, you have been given clear information, and you can opt out at any time. They are never used for advertising.
- You can change or withdraw consent at any time through the “Cookie Settings” link in the site footer. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent.
If you are in the United States
- Depending on your state, you may have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information for targeted advertising. I offer this choice to all US visitors, whichever state you live in.
- Use the “Your Privacy Choices” link in the site footer to opt out.
- I honor Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser or extension sends the signal, I treat it as a valid opt-out for that browser.
- I do not sell personal information for money. Some affiliate and marketing cookies can still count as “sharing” or “sale” under some state laws, which is why the opt-out is offered.
If you are in Kenya
I handle personal data collected through cookies in line with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019. You can use the same “Cookie Settings” link to accept, reject, or withdraw consent for non-essential cookies.
Do Not Track
There is no common standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, so I do not respond to them. I do respond to Global Privacy Control, as described above.
Browser controls (everyone)
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Affiliate links
Some links on this website may be affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate networks and merchants may set their own cookies to track the referral, and those cookies are governed by the partner’s own policies. Affiliate relationships are explained in my Affiliate Disclosure.
6. Third parties
I do not control how third-party providers use cookie data, so please read their policies:

7. Legal basis and international transfers
For visitors in the UK, I rely on consent for cookies that need it and on legitimate interests (understanding and improving the site) for exempt analytics. Some providers, including Google, are based outside the UK, EEA and Kenya, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred, I rely on the safeguards those providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or the UK-US data bridge where the provider participates.
8. How long data is kept
Cookies last for the periods shown in Section 3, or until you delete them. Analytics data held by Google is kept according to the retention settings I have chosen in my account, and I do not keep it longer than needed for reporting.
9. Personal data and your rights
Where cookies collect personal data, such as an IP address or an online identifier, it is handled in line with my Privacy Policy. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your data, to object to certain processing; and to complain to a regulator:
- UK: the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
- Kenya: the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner
- US: your state attorney general or state privacy regulator
10. Children
This website is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect their personal data through cookies.
11. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy when the law, my tools, or my practices change. The “Last updated” date shows the latest revision. If a change is significant, I will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
